About the Thattekad Bird Sanctuary:

Thattekad Bird Sanctuary, also known as the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, is one of the finest birding hotspots in India. Located in Kerala, near the Periyar River, it is a dense tropical evergreen forest home to over 300 bird species. The sanctuary was named after Dr. Salim Ali, India’s famous ornithologist, who described it as the richest bird habitat in peninsular India. January is best time to spot and photograph the all owls and migrant birds, endemic birds  and flycatchers.

Munnar : We spend two day birding session at Munnar. Munnar is rich in Western ghat endemics.

Munnar is one of the most biodiverse hill stations in the Western Ghats, and its birdlife is especially rich and varied. The region’s shola forests, grasslands, tea gardens, and valleys support many resident and endemic birds such as the Nilgiri Flycatcher, Black-and-orange Flycatcher, Nilgiri Pipit, White-bellied Sholakili, and Nilgiri Wood Pigeon. Recent surveys in the Munnar Wildlife Division have recorded over 180 bird species, showing how important the area is for bird conservation and nature study. Birdwatchers may also spot migratory and rare species, making Munnar a rewarding place for observation, learning, and responsible ecotourism.
