About Maasai Mara Habitat :
The Mara River is the most significant water body in the reserve, with several smaller rivers, such as the Talek, and streams like the Olare Orok, flowing into it. The reserve also features impressive marshes, such as Musiara, oxbow lakes, particularly in the Mara Triangle, and permanent pools. After substantial rainfall, many grassland areas become waterlogged, providing ideal feeding grounds for various wetland bird species. Masai Mara is a vast savannah ecosystem in southwestern Kenya, contiguous with Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park. Wildlife Diversity – Home to the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino) along with cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and numerous other species. Predator Density – Masai Mara has one of the highest densities of lions in the world, making it a prime spot for predator action. River Ecosystem – The Mara and Talek rivers are lifelines of the reserve, attracting crocodiles, hippos, and thirsty herbivores. Grassland & Woodland – Mostly open grasslands with scattered acacia trees, providing an ideal habitat for grazers and predators alike. Birdlife – Over 470 bird species, including secretary birds, vultures, eagles, and ostriches, thrive in the reserve.
